Today, we have the honor of featuring a real mother-daughter patient duo; Chelsea, and her daughter, Jillian.
Now, you may be thinking,
Don’t you only treat children?
Our Terre Haute orthodontist, Dr. Theodore J. Kula, treats ALL AGES, including:
We believe you’re never too old to straighten your teeth at TK Orthodontics.
So, what lead this mother-daughter duo to BOTH do orthodontic treatment with Dr. Kula?
Let’s dive into their story!
How they found our orthodontist in Terre Haute, IN
The Abu-Seir family is from Brazil, IN, and Jillian is a patient of Dr. Steve at Dentistry Just for Kids.
Dr. Steve noticed signs of misalignment and recommended Jillian have her teeth examined by Dr. Kula.
At TK Orthodontics, we offer complimentary orthodontic exams as part of our “7 & Up Smile Squad.”
Our pre-orthodontic guidance program aligns with the American Association of Orthodontics… This text opens a new tab to the AAO website… recommendation that children should see an orthodontic specialist no later than age seven.
These complimentary exams take into consideration your child’s skeletal and dental development to recommend treatments that minimize more extensive and lengthy treatment at a later age (if necessary).
When reviewing Jillian’s smile, Dr. Kula noticed she had a crossbite and determined the best course of action would be to fix it now.
Watching Jillian go through treatment with Dr. Kula inspired Chelsea to have her own smile improved.

Why Chelsea needed adult braces
Like many of us, Chelsea had braces when she was young.
But due to not wearing her retainer and then having wisdom teeth come in impacted, her teeth crowded again and ruined all her previous dental work.
How we make adult orthodontics affordable
As parents ourselves, we relate to putting our children’s needs before ours – including orthodontics. And we know finances are a big factor.
That’s why we offer the Parent Pass.
The Parent Pass allows parents of our patients to receive their own orthodontic treatment with low monthly payments.
As Chelsea said,
“Not having to come up with all the money upfront really helped to be able to say ‘YES’ to treatment for myself.”
Dr. Kula offers free orthodontic consultations for all ages!
- Digital imaging
- Intra-oral photos and scan (no goopy impressions!)
- Comprehensive exam
- Case presentation
What adult orthodontic treatments do you offer?
TK Orthodontics offers:
- Traditional Braces
- Clear Ceramic Braces
- Invisalign (Dr. Kula is the only Invisalign Premier Provider in the Wabash Valley)
In Chelsea’s case:
Dr. Kula recommended treating her bottom teeth with metal adult braces first.
She had a tooth set way back that needed extensive maneuvering – more effective with braces vs. Invisalign.
But once that was complete, she could finish the rest of her ortho in Invisalign clear aligners.
Here’s an update from Chelsea during her treatment:
“I’ve been blown away at the progress thus far! I recently said to my family that it’s been 20 years since I’ve had straight teeth, and it just makes me so happy! I’m definitely smiling more than I used to!”
Why the Abu-Seir family recommends TK Orthodontics
Here are a few reasons why Chelsea and Jillian recommend TK Orthodontics for both children and adults:
- Conveniently schedule appointments at the same
- Make low monthly payments with the Parent Pass
- Kids love playing in the arcade and kids area
- Always greeted with smiles from our friendly staff
- Dr. Kula is genuine, easy to talk to, knowledgable, and fun

Q: How much do braces cost?
A: This answer varies based on the type (traditional braces, clear ceramic braces, or Invisalign), as well as treatment requirements (length, number of appointments, etc).
Another question we get asked is, how much does adult braces cost?
The answer is the same as above because we don’t use your age as a factor for pricing.
Q: Do braces hurt?
A: Braces or Invisalign shouldn’t hurt. When you get your braces adjusted or switch to a new set of clear aligners, you may feel some mild discomfort, but that should naturally disappear.
Q: How long do adults wear braces to straighten teeth?
A: It depends on your needs and goals.
Typically, teeth in fully developed jaws (adults) take longer to move. But on average, treatment lasts approximately 12 to 30 months.
Dr. Kula will give you a timeline estimate during your consultation.
Q: What is a good age to get braces?
A: Generally speaking, the earlier the better because treating malalignment issues early can prevent problems down the road.
That’s why we offer an exclusive and fun Smile Squad, where we provide complimentary orthodontic exams for children ages seven and up.
But we also believe it’s never too late to get orthodontic treatment. You deserve to love your smile at any age!
