What to do if the wire of your braces is too long or poking you

First option:

Apply orthodontic or dental wax to the pokey wire end to stop it from hurting or irritating your gums.

Next option:

Use nail clippers to trim the archwire if it’s too long.

For children, make sure an adult is assisting.

Lastly:

If your pokey wire is still bothering you, give us a call, and we’ll get you scheduled as soon as possible.

What to do when a braces bracket comes off your tooth

Typically, when a braces bracket falls off, it’s not an urgent matter.

If your bracket breaks off 1-2 weeks before your appointment, we’ll wait to fix it at your next appointment. Just call us and give us a heads up.

If it happens and you’ve got more than 2 weeks until your next appointment, call us to discuss the urgency.

However:

If you just got your braces on and your bracket comes off, call us so we can get you back in as soon as possible to fix it.

What to do if your rubber band comes off your braces

If a rubber band comes off your braces bracket, don’t worry!

We’ll replace it at your next appointment.

What to do if your bite block comes off or wears down

This is referring to the little mounds added to your teeth to keep your bite open.

If a bite block comes off or wears down, call us because we may need to fix it sooner than later, depending on your situation.

What to do if your Invisalign tray has a sharp edge

If your Invisalign clear aligner has a sharp edge or pokey area that’s bugging you, use a nail filer to remove it gently.

If that doesn’t work, please call us so we can get you out of pain and keep your treatment moving forward.

What to do if your Invisalign tray isn’t fitting

If your Invisalign tray isn’t fitting right, try bending it back into place.

Again, if that doesn’t work, give us a call.

We want to make sure your Invisalign aligner fits properly. Otherwise, your treatment won’t progress as planned.

What to do if your orthodontic appliance comes out

If your orthodontic appliance comes out, call us right away.

You don’t want to go too long with it out because it may no longer fit.

What to do if you lose a retainer

If you lose or break your retainer, call us.

Not wearing your retainer after orthodontic treatment may cause your teeth to shift and undo all of your hard work to a straight smile.
